The Maine Way wants to provide affordable housing and access to resources that can effectively assist homeless and at risk individuals with their transition back toward independence. The intent is for our residents to gain the life skills that most of us take for granted but are crucial to suriving and leading productive lives.
How it works
While in residence, assistance is provided to connect to support services, such as job training and financial counseling. Residents are able to remain at 73 South Street for up to 18 months, until their lives have become stable and they are prepared to move on.
Residents are referred to The Maine Way by area agencies and local health officials. In order to qualify for housing, residents must be capable of independent living and committed to making positive changes in their lives. Careful screening of potential occupants eliminates those with a violent or criminal background and sexual offenders. Drugs and alcohol are not permitted on the premise.
